I’m sure you are wondering what are you supposed to do about these two releases from OpenAI. Let’s look at them together.
OSS
The so called open-source models (OSS), which aren’t open-source but rather open-weight because you cannot build this model from sources that aren’t available, are close to the SOTA for open-weight model. They are below the larger SOTA open-weight models like Qwen3-235B-A22B or Kimi K2, but are comparable to the similar-size open-weight LLMs:
